This shorter 3-day trek is a great option for those who want to summit Mount Meru (4,566 m) but are short on time. You’ll follow the same scenic trail through Arusha National Park, spot wildlife along the way, and enjoy the thrill of reaching Socialist Peak at sunrise — all packed into a slightly faster-paced itinerary.
Instead of spending an extra night at Miriakamba Hut after the summit, you’ll descend all the way to Momella Gate on Day 3. This is a more physically demanding option but still achievable for most fit hikers.
It’s also a great warm-up trek if you’re planning to climb Kilimanjaro soon after, as it helps with acclimatization.

Depart Arusha after breakfast and drive to Arusha National Park. Complete Park formalities, then begin trekking with an armed ranger. Hike through forest trails and open glades where wildlife roams. Arrive at Miriakamba Hut in the afternoon for dinner and overnight.

Elevation Gained: ~1,000 m
Overnight: Miriakamba Hut (2,500 m)
Climb steadily through montane forest and into heathland to reach Saddle Hut. After lunch, take an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m) for amazing views before returning for dinner and rest.
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours (+1 hour for Little Meru)
Elevation Gained: ~1,000 m
Overnight: Saddle Hut (3,500 m)
Begin the summit push around midnight, trekking along the dramatic crater rim to reach Socialist Peak by sunrise. After celebrating at the top, descend back to Saddle Hut for a quick meal, then continue all the way down to Momella Gate where a vehicle will transfer you back to Arusha.

Elevation Gained: ~1,066 m (summit) then descend ~3,066 m
